Waukesha, WI – The Spartans welcomed the visiting Roscoe Rush to Carroll College last Saturday night as the league premiered the game as the IFL game of the week. This game featured the (2-1) Roscoe Rush going against the (2-0) Wauwatosa Spartans in a crucial American Conference showdown. The game was as good as advertised as both teams slugged it out for four quarters.
The Spartans struck first as quarterback Brad Dement hit wide receiver Brad Guettel on a 76 yard pass for the touchdown on only their second offensive play of the game. After Guettel’s spectacular catch and run the Spartans set the tone as the quarterback Brad Dement tore up the Rush secondary all game long. The Rush answered by giving the ball to running back Deejay Spencer as he racked up a lot of yards on the ground. The Rush also kept the game close by capitalizing on the Spartans mistakes. The Spartans first miscue came in the final seconds of the second quarter where the Spartans were in scoring position and could’ve potentially went into halftime with a 18 point lead but a high snap over the head of quarterback Brad Dement squandered any scoring chance.
The second miscue came in the fourth quarter where a muffed punt by the Spartans ended up as a Rush touchdown. In the end, the passing attack of the Spartans proved to be the difference maker as the Rush had no answers on how to stop Spartan wide receivers Brad Guettel # 1, Big Play Shay #2 and Markese McDowell #11 as the Spartans beat the Rush 35-32.
The win has surprised a lot of the Spartan critics and proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. Next Saturday the Spartans will enjoy a bye week while the Rush will travel to Muskego to take on the Hitmen, kickoff is at 7pm.
