Blue devils unleash their ground assault
June 23, 2008
Waukesha, WI – On a clear, picture perfect Saturday night at Ken Hollub stadium, the visiting Burlington Blue Devils (1-0) squared off against the Cyclones from Spring City (1-0) in an inter-conference showdown.
The Cyclones found themselves quickly over-matched as the Blue Devils unleashed their high powered offensive assault.
The Blue Devil’s running back by committee ran over, around, and through the Cyclone defense all night. The ground game was led by former Northern Illinois standout and big free agent addition, Adrian Davis. He ran wild behind his big fullback, Eric Hansen, who cleared the way for a big day on the ground. Former Franklin Outlaw, Jamie Martin, also had some big runs on the night as the Cyclone defense was never really able to stop the Blue Devil ground attack.
Before the game, Cyclone owner Dan Greene told reporters that he was worried about his special teams and stated that was the team’s “Achilles heal.” It showed in this game, as kick/punt returner Kevin Barrett scored on one punt return and consistently gave the Blue Devils good field position with his returns all night long
In the end, the Blue Devils beat the Cyclones by a score of 33-0. The Blue Devils looked very impressive and it seems all the hard work in the off-season is paying off; it is evident in their (2-0) start. The (1-1) Cyclones will regroup and hope to change their misfortunes with a win against the undefeated Mustangs in Madison next Saturday night.
