Blue Devils calm Storm 14-0

Devils player disrupting Storm QB

Last Sunday the Burlington Blue Devils improved their overall record to 2-1 (2-0 in AFC) with a 14-0 win over the Milwaukee Storm (0-2). The victory was a step in the right direction for Burlington coming off a tough loss to the defending Iron Bowl champion Mustangs.

The Storm, despite being winless in this still young season, put up an awe inspiring fight. Though the Storm’s offense never hit their stride, they stayed competitive throughout the match up with a tenacious defensive effort. Burlington survived the “Storm” and was able to capitalize twice. Unfortunately for Milwaukee their aggressiveness on defense may have also been their Achilles heal.

Quarterback Warren Arnold #11 connected twice with wide reciever Kevin Barrett #15. The first strike was a deep pass that resulted in a touchdown. The second was a screen pass with excellent blocking that also culminated in a touchdown. An extremely heavy pass rush by the Storm made the Blue Devil’s offensive line fight tooth and nail for four complete quarters. As time wound down, the Blue Devil offense revved up.

The O-line out lasted the onslaught and provided the protection needed to put the game away. Running backs Josh Macara #33, Joe Brooks #6, Jamie Martin #24 & Derrek Franco #22, shared the tough chore of pounding the ball into the Storm. For the Blue Devils home opener against the rival Hitmen, those four will be vital in keeping the offensive tempo beating to the right drum.

Another shut out by the Blue Devil’s “Darkside” has them poised for a knockdown, drag out war next week. With excellent pressure by their front four, the Darkside never let the Storm backfield get comfortable. With interceptions by middle linebacker Kelvin “Dirty Souf” Jackson, & strong safety Dwight Coffee, the Storm never entered the red-zone. The Blue Devils will host the undefeated Hitmen (3-0) next Saturday at 7PM, while the Storm travel to the Milwaukee Sports Complex to take on the Milwaukee Venom (1-2).
