Whatever it takes to win, because nothing else matters
August 22, 2006
Throughout Dustin's career he did whatever it took to make his team better. In his youth days he was asked to play linebacker, defensive end and running back, one year later he was moved to safety and quarterback. In high school, Dustin remained at quarterback and safety, until his senior year when his coach told him he couldn't play defense. "I've always preferred defense to offense, but I did what was asked of me." That season the Sabers won conference, where 9-3 and went the farthest they've ever gone in the playoffs. Dustin set career statistics with over 25 touchdowns and 2,000+ passing yards. "I was surrounded by talent, 8 of our 11 starters on offense went on to play college football."
With offers from colleges such as Kent State, Valdosta State and Bemidji State, Dustin decided to stay local and play for WLC, a newer college football program. "I knew I wasn't going to the NFL so I wanted to go somewhere I could play right away." Splitting time as WLC's quarterback Dustin put up exceptional numbers for his first year. He transferred to UW-Whitewater, where he began at quarterback, moved to safety, and ended his career at linebacker. Dustin found himself again doing what was asked of him and playing out of position. "I didn't care where I played I just wanted to play, UWW is like the military, when your coach gives an order you don't ask questions and you don't make mistakes. you just do what your told."
After his junior season Dustin decided to hang-up the cleats and graduate early. "I had a kid on the way and debt up to my ears; it was just time to move on." The summer after college Dustin found himself at an IFL game, "I was there 15 minutes and wanted in." Now a franchise owner, Dustin and his team are having a great season with there only loss coming to the Bulldogs. "They were just the better team that day." Through 5 games Dustin has 30+ tackles, 7 sacks, 4 deflected passes, 2 fumble recoveries and a touchdown. The Outlaws have proven they will be a team to be reckoned with for the remainder of the season. With a winning attitude and a no nonsense approach to his work and play, Dustin hopes to add the Ironbowl Trophy to his mantle and a successful franchise to go with it for years to come.
